How We Build

Depth You Can See

We are a new practice with an old discipline. Rather than show you numbers from someone else’s business, this page shows you the design language we start from, the four phases every build runs through, and exactly what lands in your hands at the end.

The Design Vault

Ninety Directions, Not One Template

Every build starts from a direction, not a blank page. These are real, buildable design systems — type scale, palette, motion, component behaviour — and you pick the one your business should feel like before we write a line of code.

Inside the Work

What Actually Ships

A Dark Water project is a revenue system with a front end attached. Every engagement leaves the same four assets behind.

A conversion architecture

Page order, proof placement, and form logic mapped to how the buyer actually decides — not to a template’s section list.

A design system, not a mockup

Tokens, components, and motion rules your team can extend for years without calling us for a button.

Measurement wired to money

Every form, call, and checkout is tagged and routed into the Command Center so revenue is attributable by source, not guessed.

An operating handoff

Documentation, recorded walkthroughs, and a 30-day window where we sit on your side of the table.

Typical Engagement6–12 weeks

Weeks 1–2 · Diagnose

Analytics teardown, sales-call review, competitor gap map.

Weeks 3–5 · Architect

Message hierarchy, wireframes, design system, and the tracking plan.

Weeks 6–10 · Build

Production front end, integrations, QA on real devices, load and accessibility passes.

Week 11 onward · Compound

Retainer cadence: test, measure, ship. The site gets better every month it is live.

How We Onboard

Four Phases, No Surprises

The same sequence on DW Essential at $249/mo and on DW Enterprise. Only the number of modules changes.

Diagnose

We read the analytics, listen to sales calls, and find where the money is leaking. You get the findings whether or not you hire us.

Architect

Positioning, page order, and the tracking plan get signed off before a single component is designed.

Build

Weekly demos against a live staging URL. No four-week silences, no surprise reveal at the end.

Compound

Launch is the start. Retainer cycles test, measure, and ship improvements against the numbers we agreed on.

The Difference

Why This Holds Up

Most agencies

Ship a site and leave

Design first, measure never

Deliverables are judged on how the mockup looks, not on what the funnel does.

Analytics bolted on at the end

A tag is dropped in the week of launch, so nothing before it is comparable.

Handoff as an exit

The relationship ends at launch, which is exactly when the learning starts.

Dark Water

Run the system with you

Targets set in week one

We agree on the metric before design starts, and the design is argued against it.

Baseline captured before we touch anything

Thirty days of clean pre-launch data so the lift is real and defensible.

Launch is the midpoint

Retained clients keep compounding. A launch is the cheapest part of the work and the least of the value.

The value does not come from the launch. It comes from the system still being run twelve months later — same login, same bill, same partner. Setup is quoted once, up front, and halved when you pay annually.

Before You Ask

Questions We Get

Dark Water is a new practice, and we would rather tell you that than publish a wall of results we did not produce. What we can show you is concrete: ninety design directions built and running in a browser, the platform this site and our own operation run on, and the code we hand over. On a call we will screen-share a live build and walk the stack line by line.

Against a 30-day pre-launch baseline captured before we change anything, using the same analytics property, the same definitions, and the same date-range length. Where a number involves revenue, it is pulled from your CRM or checkout, not from a platform’s self-reported conversions.

No. Those are the verticals where we already have playbooks, so we move faster and charge less for discovery. Outside them we still take the work, we just spend more of week one learning your buyer.

Yes. You own everything we build, including the repository, the design tokens, and the analytics configuration. Before you sign anything we will walk you through the component library and the platform behind this site, which is the same one your build runs on.

We keep working the problem. Targets are set in week one and reviewed monthly. If a build underperforms its baseline, the next retainer cycle is spent fixing it rather than adding scope.

We run a small number of builds concurrently so senior people stay on every project. Typical lead time is two to four weeks. Diagnostic work can usually begin immediately.
